The Richmond High community is mourning the loss of one among its beloved veteran teachers, Zach Shrieve, who recently passed on after having a terminal cancer diagnoses in August.
News of Shrieve’s passing was shared around the Richmond High Oilers Alumni Facebook page on Thursday.
Shrieve has repeatedly been called by colleagues and current and former students among the list of school’s best, most attentive teachers. The city was devastated to know in this October report in regards to YouCaring.com account that’s established to raise money for that teacher’s cancer battle. The account’s initial objective of raising $50,000 for treatments was simply surpassed.
Shrieve, who had taught at Richmond High for over 20 years, was called genuine, kind, funny, giving, caring, involved and dedicated. As someone who put others before himself.
“Probably the greatest teachers from my own time at Richmond High and today to my son’s years,” one former student wrote in answer on the news of Shrieve’s passing. “He left us some wonderful memories.”
Shrieve taught sports and physical eduction and coached volleyball at Contra Costa College, among other pursuits. Students knew him as someone who went way beyond his normal duties to help.
“He even wrote in my opinion as soon as i was all banged up from my motor vehicle accident,” the scholar said. “He was always a very nice guy to my opinion.”
Fellow teachers also share much fascination with Shrieve.
“You mostly taught me to feel confident as being a new teacher, and offered an awesome your government type of support that’s essential in my early a great deal of teaching,” colleague?Megan Burnham said.
Funeral arrangements haven’t been announced.
